Nike Air Jordan Drawing - Psychedelic Remix

Here is something a little different. Just finished up this psychedelic rendering of a Nike Air Jordan basketball shoe. I like how this one turned out and kind of wish I could actually see a real version of this ! Maybe through the magic of 3D printing someday.

Some more new music is also on the way too so be sure to check out the PsyAmb YouTube channel where all the new mixes are now hosted.

Visionary Art Drawing Timelapse

Recently finished up a new drawing done in a visionary art style. This was created with my usual combination of Copic markers and color pencils. In this drawing I tired to express some of the ideas and imagery captured from within the psychedelic experience. You can follow along with the timelapse video below. Have a great day everyone.

Terence McKenna Drawing

Another quick sketch this week for the YouTube psychedelic art channel. This time I went for a drawing of everyone's favorite psychonaut - Terence McKenna. I've been reading and listening to McKenna for over 20 years and thought it might be challenging to capture his likeness in Copic markers and pencil.

Check out the full drawing time lapse and let me know what you think. If you like the drawing don't forget to subscribe to the channel to stay up to date with new art as I post.

Green Man Drawing

Hi Guys. Since my last post I've been busy getting this new YouTube channel going with some more trippy art. Here is a recent drawing and video I did which explored the ancient folklore of the Green Man.

Recent Psychedelic Art Drawings

It's been a while since I've posted any art here on this blog so I thought I'd share some recent creations that I've been uploading to a new YouTube channel.

If you like psychedelic art or any kind of art with a colorful trippy vibe to it you might find my channel interesting. I'll try to post new art there on a regular basis so if you like watching along to these art timelapse videos then why subscribe to the channel to stay up to date with new art as I upload.

Most of the art of the channel is created with Copic markers and Prismacolor pencils which is a combination I really enjoy as it allows me to create detailed, colorful art without all the mess and space requirements of acrylic or oil paint.

The first drawing is a psychedelic octopus. This took about 10 hours to draw in total. I really enjoyed the organic free flowing style in this one and the trippy color combination were a lot of fun to render too. I also experimented with using the Copic various ink refill bottles for an abstract drip art background.

Next is a small trippy drawing of some magic mushrooms that turned out really well with some vibrant psychedelic color combinations. This took longer to draw than I expected as it was quite detailed in parts. It was a rewarding experience though as it allowed me to test some new paper I had recently purchased. I'm not too fussed about paper and tend to use the cheapest I can find that blend Copic markers well enough. However this new paper, produced by .Too, the same company which makes Copic markers, has made me rethink my stance on paper as it was so nice to draw on ! Perhaps I'll save this more expensive paper for particularly special projects.

Finally I'd like to share this psychedelic Homer Simpson fan art drawing I did. This was my first attempt at drawing anything in a cartoon style. What do you think ? I started this off by doing a freehand sketch of a drooling Homer then added various surreal elements over the top. After transferring the initial sketch I then did the lineart with some copic multiliners and then colored. I really dig this drawing so I plan to do some more trippy cartoon style art in the future.

Aquirax Uno Posters ( Japanese Psychedelic Design )

While doing some organizing around home I recently re-discovered an interesting book I picked up some years ago at a second hand book shop here in Osaka. Titled Aquirax Uno Posters 1959-1975, it contains a number of cool psychedelic designs from Japanese artist Akira Uno.

Uno was most prolific in the 1960s and 1970s where his trippy illustrations were used in theater stage event advertising. He also did logo and fashion advertising for a number of boutiques in and around Tokyo.

Here are a number of posters from the book I scanned in. I like his simple line work which is somewhat reminiscent of the work of Western 60's psychedelic artists. Many of his posters display sexual themes that were perhaps more openly accepted in Japan than the advertising standards allowed in the USA/Europe at the time.

10 Epic Psychedelic Painting To Inspire You

Psychedelic paintings come to us in many different styles. From minimalistic designs with contrasting colors to incredibly detailed fractal geometries,  painstakingly represented in oil.

Over the years, I have gathered a large collection of my favorite psychedelic paintings from which I use to derive inspiration. I thought I'd share a few of them with you today. I've tried to present a broad enough range of styles here, but hopefully you'll agree they all share that inherent psychedelic vibe.

1. The Hallucinogenic Toreador - Salvador Dali

The first time I saw this striking psychedelic image was as a poster on a friend's living room wall. While much of Dali's art is considered to be masterpieces of surrealism, rather than psychedelic, there is no doubting this paintings hallucinatory imagery.

Painted between 1968 and 1970, it remains one of the artist's most recognized paintings. Given the painting's timeline, one can imagine the use of hallucinogenic drugs must have supplied some form of inspiration for this work. However, Dali famously stated "I don't do drugs ! I am drugs !" and that his inspiration resulted from a self developed method he called "Paranoiac Critical Method".

Personally, I find it a touch difficult to believe he never did drugs given the type of people he associated with, his lavish lifestyle and childlike curious nature. He was also once quoted as saying "Everyone should do hashish but just once". When one looks past the immediate hallucinatory nature of the painting, you begin to see that it is actually swimming in endless symbolism - a device Dali used throughout his entire career.

Psychedelic Art Collaborations - Many Hands Make Light Work

Artist collaborations have become a growing trend in the psychedelic visual art world of late. Collaboration in visual art is nothing new, mind you. Warhol and Basquiat in the 80s and Dali and Luis Bunuel as far back as the 1920s are two famous collaborations that spring to mind.

In a sense, collaborative visual art is, as Keith haring once said, "a physical conversation happening in paint instead of words". Today's psychedelic artists are conversing in realms of inner meditative thoughts and hallucinatory experiences.

The bringing together of visual artists at psychedelic music festivals such as Symbiosis, Gem and Jam, Great North Festival and Enchanted Forest Gathering has created a perfect environment for psychedelic painters to share ideas and inspire one another to greater things.

With a background of hypnotic beats provided by a global collective of trance, bass and tribal musicians, artists take up their brushes together to feverishly paint throughout the night, surrounded by the lush canopy of nature. A cascade of creativity, then unfolds.

Mushroom Drawings - The Magic Art of Mushrooms

I've been practicing drawing mushrooms lately as part of a larger, spiraling psychedelic drawing. In researching magic mushrooms and related fungi I stumbled across many great images of hand drawn and painted psychedelic mushroom art.

So many good ones in fact I thought I'd create a kind of mushroom archive post to share and also provide a placeholder for me to check back later when I need more ideas. Check these out !
