Spacey Ambient Mix Download - PsyAmb 27

I have another chilled out psychedelic ambient spacey mix for you all today. This one kicks off with a tune from Australia's "Hesius Dome" from their 2002 debut CD "The Age of Steam" on "Psy-Harmonics". As far as spacey soundscapes go , Hesius Dome's debut was a blinder. A truly artistic endeavor. I also recommend checking out "Ornament" , another ambient group with the H.D members involved.

Next up is "Sync24" with the tune mBorg from 2007's "Source" CD on "Ultimae Records". Sync24 is "Daniel Ringstrom" , one half of ambient giants "Carbon Based Lifeforms". Daniel is currently at work on a new Sync24 CD which promises to be a bit more uptempo than "Source". Whatever the tempo, I'm sure it will be as polished and moving as always.

Following on from Daniel we have "Astropilot" with "Life Lines". "
Dmitry Red'ko" formed "Astropilot" back in 2006 and has released two CDs including last week's "Solar Walk" which I'm looking forward to picking up. You can hear the entire CD as a mix on soundclound. Simply click HERE. Dmitry is a big fan of the likes of "Robert Rich" and "Alio Die".

"Carbon Based Lifeforms" have been producing some of the finest psychedelic ambient music over the last ten years. The duo built a reputation for themselves early on with a number of excellent compilation appearances on "Ultimae Records". I think it was possibly the track "MOS 6581" on the third "Farenheit Project" compilation that bought them the most attention early on. This was quickly followed up with their stunning debut CD "Hydroponic Garden" in 2003 and from their it has been onwards and upwards. Look out for their next release titled "Interloper" which should hit stores in the next few weeks. Check out Ultimae's website for some online samples to wet your appetite until then.

Following that we have yet another Ultimae artist in the form of Norway's "Circular". This tune comes from last year's "Sunstans" CD. Before their move to Ultimae , Circular had a number of releases through Norwegian label "Origo Sound". Follow this link to an Origo interview with "Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik", one half of Circular talking about thier 2004 release "Glass Darkly".

"I Awake" ( Thomas Huttenlocher ) has one CD to his credit , "The Core" , and a mighty fine one it is at that. Thomas' music is deeply emotional and carries a haunting , ghostly presence. Quite fitting really seeing as he is also a member of the group "Ghostfriend".

Next we have "Zero Cult" with a track from the massive "Dreams in Stereo" CD of 2009. I have featured Zero Cult a number of times in past mixes so I wont go into too much detail this time around. Suffice to say you should definitely check out some of his work by visiting the "Cosmic Leaf" records website where you can also find the likes of Cydelix, Side Liner, The Omm Squad and Terra Nine.

"Aes Dana" needs no introduction to fans of psychedelic ambient music. "Vincent Villius" long ago established the Aes Dana name as an outlet for his endless creativity. Electronic activist since teenagehood, he was also one of the founding members of "Asura" ( Battle Of the Devas - what a tune ! ).

Bass player and singer in several coldwave and industrial bands, he then moved on to composing with machines. He brings a fusion between the British Progressive feel and the traditional American Space Music; with sounds anchored in the psychedelic realm freely flowing into a morning downtempo trance, tribal or smashed rhythms. So far he has produced 4 solo albums, contributed to about 3 dozen compilations and collaborated on two albums with Swedish artist "Magnus Birgersson" under moniker "H.U.V.A Network".

His next album "Perimeters" is to be released sometime in 2010. In 2009, Vincent composed soundtracks for Science Fiction movie "The Passport" (Amund Lie) and "Atrophy Bank" (Sam Asaert). In June 2009 he released his latest album "Leylines" which received excellent feedback worldwide. The album was ranked top 10 sales electronic music on Itunes USA and Top 5 on emusic. This tune , "Pulse Rate", can be found on the "Vital Signs" compilation released by "Celestial Dragon Records" last month.

Next we have a short psy-vocal interlude by "Scann-Tec" before we get into "CJ Catalizer" and his track "2012" from the "Earth" compilation on "Altar Records". DJ Zen , producer of the "Air,Water,Fire and Earth compilation" series has been an tireless champion of psychedelic ambient music for many years now. "CJ Catalizer" is the moniker of Russian Producer "Dimitriy Neschadim". Check out last year's CD "Quid Est Veritas" where he teams up with "Chronos" for a fabulous ambient journey full of complex melodies and superb production. Here is a link to an interview with the two lads talking about the production of the CD.

After that we have a new tune from a amazing new album by "Scann-Tec" (Vladislav Isaev) . "Facial Memories" is the debut release by Scann-Tec and I suspect it has been much anticipated by many a psychedelic ambient music fan. In 2002 he started writing trance music and was invited to play it at some parties in 2002 and 2003.

In 2004, after buying some additional equipment, he started writing ambient and chill-out music. Four months later, he had released his first EP entitled "Visiting Sky" on the "Kahvi Collective" net-label. This was followed by another EP entitled "Collaps" on Acedia Music a few months later. His favourite instrument is his digital dictaphone . He loves to record people's voices, especially the voices of unusual people.

This brings another dimension and atmosphere to his music. He is also obsessed with fat basslines, atmospheric pads and psychedelic sequences that take listeners to other dimensions of sound. He loves to transfer the visual atmosphere into the aural. One listen of "Facial Memories" and you'll understand what the fuss is all about. Already riding high on global chillout charts , "Facial Memories" is a awesome release jam packed with tight, twisty basslines, fresh percussive effects and spacey atmospheric progressive elements. Check it out at the "Celestial Dragon Records" website.

Remember "Sunkings" ? Back in the 1990's Sunkings were somewhat something of a regular feature on the psychedelic ambient scene culminating in 1998's "Soul Sleeping" CD with its cool jacket design. Well, after more than a decade in the wilderness they are back ! This tune comes from their new CD "Before We Die" out on "Chill Tribe Records". A great album it is too. Original Sunkings member "Taz Alexander" ( Juno Reactor ) is back to provide the vocal background of the group around which they produce an exotic mix of polished electronica. Highly recommended .

Finally today we have a project by Australian artist "Richard Rutter" a.k.a "Dark Nebula" , "Lunar Orbit". In 1998 Richard climbed back into his "Orbit Constructions" spaceship to release a mighty fine CD of dark ambient soundscape titled "Andromeda". Great stuff.

That's about it for this week. As always thanks for visiting - much appreciated ! Next mix planned is the PsyAmb listeners mix. If you have any original tunes you would like promoted here on PsyAmb then mail them to me as soon as possible.

Cheers ...
