Molecular Transformation - PsyAmb 80

This weeks mix is a blend of deep psybient music showcasing some of the best of past and present. We begin with AtTyYa - one of the most promising new producers of the last year. This track, Circularium, was exclusively produced for the LostInSound compilation Spring2015. It perfectly demonstrates why AtTyYa has attracted much attention of late. It has the layered subtle dub vibe reminiscent of the music on the old Native State Records compilations, a touch of Bluetech and a more modern psyglitch approach.

This is then followed by a track from the recent Album Of The Week "Elements" by Master Minded on Merkaba Music. A top album, it's full of shamanic tribal ambient explorations that will take you on an inner journey of self discovery.

After that we get into "Dub Memble"  - a cool tune from ESR. This is an old track from 2002 from the compilation "Electronic Children". Pretty interesting comp so track it down if you get the chance. It was the only comp, the only record at all actually, that the label Bamba Records produced ! The ESR guys ( Gareth Green and Charles Norton ) were mostly active around the early 2000s and came back again around 2011 under a different name with a a couple of dub electronica inspired albums.

PsyAmb blog regulars Desert Dwellers make an appearance again with a remix of Adham Shaikh's tune "Desert Dub". As you would expect it's top drawer stuff from Desert Dwellers once again as they put another tune through the DD magic remix box. They can do no wrong.

Following on then we have arguably my favorite track from this mix - "The Mission" by Mazea. This tune is trippy I'll give you that but what really does it for me, what really canoodles my noodle, that bassline ! What a cracker ! Find it on another recent Album Of The Week - Uxmill Chill Vol 01 or pick it up on the Mazea full length - "When Waves Collide" from last year.

After yet another Desert Dwellers track featuring some lovely vocals by Ixchel Prisma we have the rolling bass and menacing headiness of "The Fuzz" by Membrain from Pure Perception Records compilation "Equinox pt. 11". So as not to let your head fully explode I then smooth things out a little with a classic track from Don Peyote off his debut 1999 album "Are You Peyoted ?".  I was blown away the first time I heard this on a big speaker stack. It still holds up quite well today too !

Speaking of classic gems. Up next is a track you may have missed. Waterjuice were pioneers of the psybient scene and paved they way for many young American producers to follow. The group was a duo formed by Cyril Kollock and Bruce (Raven) Tupling. They released three albums over a period of eight years beginning in 2000. Bruce has since moved onto 3D design/sculpture while Cyril now goes by the name Cyril Noir and electrifies the dancefloor with his unique blend of dance music infused with speakeasy swing riffs ! This track, "Something Else", really is just that !

Suns Of Arqa follow on next. SOA are one of the oldest groups you are likely to hear within the psybient world. Formed in 1979 their music is a blend of electronic ambiance, dub and world music. They have a new album out on Martin Glover's resurrected label Liquid Sound Design titled "All Is Not Lost, But Where Is It ?". Hopefully this will mark the first of many great new releases from this highly respected label. I ate up everything they released on their first incarnation.

Following some far left side of the brain psychedelic shenanigans from Kurbeats and Swen Stroop ( wish he would release another album !! ) we have a track from one of last years best little EPs - "Mind Altering Beans". SyBins is a psychedelic project from Israel, founded by Roy Madmoni and Tuval Shiloah. In a recent interview the guys listed their favorite musicians - OTT, Simon Posford, Saafi Brothers, X Dream and Seb Taylor to name a few. I like their style !

Our final track is from another Israel based act, Yestegan chaY, who as it so happens is collaborating with SyBins at the moment. So I thought it might be nice to mix the two acts together - seems to transition pretty well too. Could it be a sign of something amazing to come from this collaboration perhaps ?

Hope you enjoy the mix guys. I've kept it a little shorter to give me time to get it done. I'm working on trying to lift my drawing game so that's taking up a fair chunk of my time these days. Fear not though as I'll never stop mixing ;>

Cheers ...
